Last Thursday I visited Stevenson Ridge in Fredericksburg Virginia for the Come Together Event. It was an evening with Katelyn James and Jordan and Amy Demos speaking all about the importance of blogging and connections made through social media. This is my third time attending a Katelyn James speech, 2nd in the last month! I'm clearly a huge fan of hers haha. For me, listening to Katelyn speak is life changing. It's good for my heart. Like really good. Every time I leave a speech of hers, I feel my business grow. I feel myself grow. This time was no exception.
I think I relate so much to what Katelyn says because I agree wholeheartedly that One Sweet Day in May is not just about making money. I didn't start this business thinking I would be making money. I started it because I loved it. I get so much fulfillment from being a part of people's lives. If you're a bride of mine, you know how excited I am when I meet you. And I don't even know if you're going to book me yet! I really just love what I do. I'm just little ol' me, but the fact that people let me be a big part of their wedding day blows my mind and I've found that people latch on when they connect personally to you.
Jordan and Amy Demos are amazing. I had only heard of them before last Thursday, but holy moly am I glad I heard their speech. This husband and wife photography team from Arizona are so genuine and wonderful. Their talk was on making connections through social media and I loved it because it's actually something that I have seen happen in my business in the last 6 months. The relationships I have created and curated through Facebook and Instagram amaze me. It's not about how many flowers you have, but what you can do with the people who you have right now. Personal instagrams can lead to places you could never imagine. I have met wedding planners and photographers on Social Media who have connected with me and have sent me brides who have booked me. Just because of an Instagram photo. Woah, talk about powerful. Amy and Jordan's talk spoke right to my heart and I'm so thankful to have had the opportunity to to listen to them speak.
I'm still new to blogging and haven't gotten it all figured out, but I know what kind of space I want to create here. You can't expect to impact people's lives if you don't let them into yours. As a florist, my expertise is in flowers, but most people don't know anything about flowers. They know roses and that's about it. So to share only posts on flowers would be silly. I have to let people into my life. I have to share my story. Will there be posts about flowers? Absolutely! I can't wait to start showing you the behind the scenes of wedding day prep, tell you why the bride and I chose specific flowers, and reveal the final product. But, that's not the whole story here. Blogging has already become a huge part of One Sweet Day in May and every time I attend a Katelyn James speech, I leave so inspired to do great things with this tiny little spec of the internet and my little company and I hope you'll continue to join me on this blogging adventure.
Love,
Michelle
